A couple months ago I sat down wth the the board at Central to tell them that I planned to self-publish some books. I wasn’t asking for permission, but I did want their blessing—mostly because I was (and still am) repackaging writings and graphics that were created on church time. I joked with them that I didn’t plan on really selling too many copies (and that the profit would go towards the church plant). They joked with me about it. We figured some close friends and my parents might buy a copy.
We joked that I would only sell a dozen copies.
Well, friends, I have some good new: I have officially passed my goal! 🙂

In fact, as of writing this I’ve sold 17 copies. (sure, I bought a few myself… but still). I know that 17 copies isn’t very many, but on the other hand, it’s more than I joked about selling. Here’s one way to look at it (and I’m not just trying to be positive): every copy I sell from here on is above and beyond what I was willing to joke about. I find that significant.
And really, with such few sales, I’ve already gotten some really positive feedback! Check out what a friend posted on my wall. She had received a very early version, so when the finished version came in the mail, she let me know. This is worth all the work, right here:

I am reminded of the verse from Zachariah:
"Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin" Zachariah 4:10
With one goal met, it’s time to set another. I think I’ll up it from a dozen to a 100. I’m not sure how long it will take to reach that goal, but when I do, I’ll be sure to let you know.
So for those who got a copy: thanks! For those who will eventually buy a copy: double thanks!
In fact, this entire process has been a learning process—and I’m not calling it a day until I master the entire process—marketing included (which I’m still figuring out).
It’s been fun, and I’m excited to see where it goes.
